Glasgow Friends of Israel has been established to advocate for Peace for both the Israeli and Palestinian people. As it will not be possible to have Peace for just one side, supporters and activists work for a secure and lasting Peace for both peoples.
GFI is not a religious organisation and is supported by Jews, Christians, Muslims, Hindus and people of other religions and none.
All are welcome

We decided to move the GFI stall further down Buchanan Street today. We've had so much intimidation and harassment every week, from the lame brain Israel haters, that we decided to do the smart thing and move away at a safe distance from them and what a great decision that was. We always have brilliant conversations with passers-by on Buchanan Street and today the added bonus was, that we could chat to people without having to listen to idiots and half-wits screaming abuse at us and displaying their usual aggressive behaviour.
We didn't have one single fabrenter at the stall all day. One chap from Turkey wasn't exactly on side as he stopped to tell us that all the Turkish people are full of love for their fellow man, want nothing more than peace and that Jews are welcome in Turkey. He told us that there are many sects of Jews and there are also Zionists. We were very happy to share in his love for our fellow man and explained that there are indeed many different 'sects' of Jews and the great majority of them are Zionists. He asked if we were Zionists and it was confirmed that indeed we are and that there are Jewish Zionists, Christian Zionists and Muslim Zionists. We could see that he was extremely confused as he realised that this nice group of people at the GFI stall were Zionists. He had obviously heard the most awful things about us but when questioned on what they were, he couldn't actually remember. He left the stall completely bemused as we told him how great it was that we all agreed on the same things. Peace and love. We wonder if he'll tell his friends that Zionists aren't such bad people after all.
Alan stopped to tell us he definitely does not support the Palestinian cause. He told us he'd travelled throughout many countries in the Middle East, including Israel and especially loved Jordan. He took a look at one of our leaflets and said there will never be peace as long as Hamas is in power. And this is something that is mentioned so many times to us on Buchanan Street. It seems that most people now acknowledge that Hamas is a terrorist organisation that cares little for the people of Gaza, apart of course from the Scottish Green Party.
Adam is an Afghan refugee who has lived in Glasgow for 10 years. He said that people always shout "Free Palestine" but 'Palestinian' is a made up name and Israel belongs to the Jewish people. And Celia from the Baptist church wanted us to know how pro-Israel she is, as did Paul who has 2 friends who used to be in the IDF and the IAF. Paul is a member of Conservative Friends of Israel and we chatted about how loud and abusive the so-called pro-Palestine activists are. He said that they never talk about the abuse of Palestinians in camps in Syria, Lebanon, Beirut and Jordan. Never any mention of war crimes perpetrated in Yemen, or the ethnic cleansing of Uighur Muslims in China. Only the conflict between Israel and the Palestinians. We agreed that there's only one word for this - Antisemitism.
A lady from Northern Ireland called Paula told us of a vicious assault that took place on her previous visit to Glasgow, just before the start of the Covid pandemic. She and her husband stopped at a Palestinian activists' stall on Buchanan Street and when she said she supported Israel, an aggressive individual launched himself at her and pushed her backwards. She said that her husband video-ed the incident and she's going to ask him to look and see if the footage is still on his phone. In the light of what has happened to us recently, we'd be most interested to have sight of this assault and it will be forwarded to the appropriate authorities.
We have conversations with many people from different Middle eastern countries and many of them refugees and asylum seekers. and we have to be sensitive about mentioning their names on social media when we write about them. We had a very good conversation with an Iranian gentleman who came to the stall with his wife. He was a lawyer in Iran and we talked about his situation and how he managed to get out of the country. He said what many Iranians we've spoken to say, that they would dearly love to return to their home country but they can't under the present regime. He told us that it's the regime and most definitely not the people of Iran, that hate Israel and this is what we're always told as well. This gentleman would love to meet up with like-minded Iranians living in Glasgow, so we immediately called our Persian volunteer and put them in touch with one another.
A young student from Hong Kong spent almost an hour talking to us. He had stopped to speak to the nasty bigots at the anti Israel stall up the road and came down to us with his head filled with the most unutterable racist rubbish. They fed him such rabid lies and disinformation and he was stunned to learn that Israel is not an apartheid state, that 20% of Israelis are Arabs and there are Arab political parties in the Israeli parliament, with one of them being in government. He was pretty shocked to see the photograph of Palestinian rioters in Al Aqsa Mosque, with a pile of large rocks that were collected to use as missiles against defenceless Jewish worshippers at the Western Wall. It's important to dispel the myths and falsehoods that these people insist on telling.
Most of the roads in Glasgow city centre were closed today as there were huge Orange Lodge parades. There was also an anti-vaxx demo that walked past our stall with 'no vaccine passports' placards and one conspiracy theorist we noticed was wearing a tee shirt with '9/11 was an inside job' Another guy harangued us and told us that Israel had sold out to Pfizer and "it'll be easier to kill the Jews than it was for Hitler"
Truly, all human life is out on Buchanan Street on a Saturday and we'd love you to come and join us next week to see for yourself. You'd be most welcome. ... See MoreSee Less
We moved the stall down Buchanan Street
That ended up a great big treat
No moronic shouting there
No ugly faces we had to bear
The day was peaceful and serene
Next week we’ll be back there to be seen
please come along
What a joy not to hear the shouting by the simpleton
Or be followed around by Moronic M
Great day all round

It's fantastic reading your updates of what happens in Glasgow. It always amazes me how quickly you change the perspective of those who think Israel is an apartheid country. We need you over there so much and it sounds like you are doing a terrific job of hasbara. Kol hakavod. Keep going. ❤❤❤⭐⭐⭐⭐

I didn't realise you had a choice of where to set up your stall. Such a shame you didn't move sooner to avoid the rude abusers but maybe that let the general public walking by, see for themselves who should be listened to and who should be avoided. You put such pride in all our hearts. We, out of towners look forward every Sunday to reading about your wonderful voluntary work.
A lovely report as always. Thanks for all you do
